This is an ugly chapter in American history, driven by President Trump and Tom Homan—men who have shown open contempt for the Constitution and basic human dignity.
Under Homan’s watch, families have been torn apart, asylum-seekers jailed, and people deported to a foreign torture prison simply for having tattoos. He helped turn cruelty into policy—and now he’s bringing that fear-mongering to Rochester.
Let’s be clear: he’s not here to make us safer. He’s here to spread division.
On Monday, immigration officers arrested hardworking people who came here fleeing violence—people who contribute to our community. Using local police to carry out these raids is a betrayal of public trust. They should protect rights, not help violate them.
Regardless of immigration status, the U.S. Supreme Court has held that individuals in the U.S.—including immigrants—are entitled to constitutional rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, due process, and protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. Those rights don’t disappear just because someone is a non-citizen.
Rochester stands for fairness, not fear. We won’t be silent as our neighbors are targeted and our values trampled.
