Legislator Rachel Barnhart was interviewed on WXXI’s Connection to discuss Monroe County’s long-awaited report on broadband access and opportunities.
Legislator Barnhart spearheaded the formation of the Monroe County Advisory Task Force on Broadband, of which she is a member. She pushed for studying the area’s broadband infrastructure, pricing and access.
“The report is validating in that it does show Monroe County has a problem with access, affordability and quality of service,” said Legislator Barnhart. “It’s crucial that we do not allow this report to sit on a shelf, and we quickly discuss next steps in exploring the consultant’s recommendations.”
Legislator Barnhart, who studied municipal broadband as part of her Master Degree in Public Administration degree, thanked County Executive Adam Bello for setting aside $20 million to begin exploring solutions.
